The year was 1989. It was a warm summer day in late August and my mother was sitting on the beach in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. All of the sudden, BAM! I was being born. While I don't really know if my mom was on the beach, what I DO know, is that I was in fact born in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba on August 23, 1989. It was all downhill for my parents from there.
I was a generally active child. Always involved in sports. Always getting in trouble. Always talking back to my parents. Fortunatly for me, they didn't send me off to military school, even if they did threaten it a few times. I ended up growing up and joining the Army at 19 anyways, so the joke was on me I guess. My time in the military lasted from April 2009 to March 2012. At that time I moved back to Iowa in search of something more.
Since moving back to Iowa, I have had my share of ups and downs. Most of my downs have came from the 9 knee surgeries that I have had since sustaining a work injury in 2013. It has been a constant battle, but I am happy that I shouldn't need another surgery for quite some time. In my time since coming back to our beloved state, I have had several jobs. I worked on sewer mains, worked in fast food, and was a bartender for about 5 years. Currently, I work for Animal Health International in Manchester, Iowa. I have been in my current position for a little over 2 years but in May I made the decision to come back to school because I know that I am not living up to my potential.
I haven't put a whole lot of thought into what I will do after I graduate from Hawkeye Community College. But, I did have a plan coming in. I would like to do somethings along the lines of being a Data Architect. One of my goals in this program is to develop the skills needed to succeed in that field. Another goal that I have is just to challenge myself and learn new skills that can transfer into my everyday life. Things such as being more reliable and to not procratinate.
Favorite Projects
One of my favorite projects that we have worked on this semester is the MOVIE project. The number one reason that I liked this project so much is because it allowed me to tell people about one of my favorite movies. It also gave me a chance work with placing pictures in their own columns.
Another project that I really enjoyed creating this semester is the HOBBY project. The reason that I pick this as one of my favorites is because it gave me the chance to look at how pages are made for sports teams. It also gave me the chance to create something about a topic that I really enjoy talking about. This was by far my favorite project and would love to continue to update this page and possibly create links on each player in the aside column to their stat pages.
Favorite PHP Project
My favorite project that I did in PHP was definitely my individual project. The reason I enjoyed it so much is that I could finally see what I did in Database Management truely come to life. While it isn't a finished project, There is a lot taht can be done to expand this project. Here is a link to the project: CFB Reference. What I learned in using PHP is things such as creating a database in cPanel and using PHP to call upon the database to display data in a web application. I also learned how to use PHP to insert and update data in the database using the web application instead of having to update the database itself.
